A Note From the Author This story is based on a time in the life of a real boy named Robert Norris. During the years of the late 1970's and early 1980's, Robert lived with his father, Rockwell Norris, a National Park Service Ranger, and his mother, Audrey Norris, in the light keeper's cottage next to the Fire Island Lighthouse at Fire Island, off the south shore of Long Island, New York. In this story, I cannot promise that all the adventures in Robert's life did indeed take place as I have written them. What is real and what is fantasy is up to you, the reader, to decide. But one thing is true and important: the need for us to keep forever the beauty and majesty of our past that the Fire Island Lighthouse represents.
